A Prayer and A Dream
Faces of 77

Every Sailor has their own struggles to overcome in life and these obstacles have forged them into the men and women they are today. Seaman British Malone, a native of Athens, Alabama, is one of these Sailors.
From bouncing between households and witnessing violence, to ultimately becoming homeless, Malone could have easily become another tragic statistic.
"I wanted to show the world that there's more to me than this troubled past," said Malone. "I wanted to show everyone that there's a different side to me than the cliche image of those that came from where I came from."
Malone has not let his past define him, he has risen above it. He found an outlet through his writing and dancing that allowed him to express himself.
"For me, my dreams are not about fame or fortune, but to be a voice to guide those who are trapped in their own troubled past," said Malone. "I didn't have a voice to help me back then, and I don't want that for anyone else."
While Malone has accomplished some his goals, he still has more to do. He plans to go to college and earn his degree in performing arts. Ultimately, Malone plans to spread his message through as many outlets as possible.
"I'd like my voice to be heard in different ways," said Malone.
Whether it's through poetry, dancing or any of my other projects, I'd like to be there for people through my creative works and reach out to those who need motivation to move forward in their lives." -SN British Malone
An instant is all that it takes for someone to make a bad decision. Destructive behavior comes in many forms, whether it's choosing to be late for work, drinking excessively or something worse. Like the ripple effect from a drop of water, these moments have lasting repercussions, not just for the individual, but for their friends and loved ones. It is the way of things in life, and it is no different in the Navy.
USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) has begun a series titled "Faces of 77" to bring awareness and a personal approach to addressing the occurrence of destructive behavior.
