5 Things You Need to Know:
Gov't. Travel Card and Do's and Don'ts
25 July 2016
You've just arrived at your new command and part of your duties will be traveling around the globe supporting the Navy's mission. Plane tickets, lodging and food can add up rather quickly, so how do you pay for it all? Answer: the government travel card, but hold fast shipmate, there are some things you need to know before you swipe that card.
What You Need to Know:
1. The Government Travel Charge Card Program (GTCC) provides travelers, both military and DoD civilians with a safe, effective, convenient, and commercially available method to pay for your official travel.
2. The GTCC includes Individually Billed Accounts (IBAs). Depending on your credit score you will fall into one of two types of IBAs, Standard and Restricted:
2A. Standard:
* Minimum credit score (660) required
* Total credit limit (monthly cycle): $7500 (Cash advance limit - $665)
* Split disbursement mandatory
* Billing statement mailed to cardholder's address
2B. Restricted
* Credit score from 500-659 required or credit check declined
* Total credit limit (monthly cycle): $4000 (Cash advance limit - $365)
* Split disbursement mandatory
* APC "Activation/Deactivation required"
* Billing statements mailed to cardholder's address
3. Payment of IBAs is YOUR responsibility. Keep all receipts from your travel to submit for payment.
4. Travel Card Training: Before you are issued your GTCC you have to complete some training first. All cardholders are required to take the Travel Card Program Course: Programs and Policies - Travel Card Program (Travel Card 101). Your Agency Program Coordinator (APC) will assist you with access to the training website.
5. If your travel card is lost or stolen or you see fraudulent charges on your travel card immediately call Citibank Customer Support at (800) 200-7056, or if outside the U.S. call collect (757) 852-9076, 24 hours daily / 7 days a week, to avoid responsibility for fraudulent charges on your account. Be sure to also notify your APC. Cards reported lost or stolen are blocked from accepting additional charges, and you will not be liable for unauthorized charges.
Do's and Don'ts:
DO
* Use for official travel: TDY-local or long distance and PCS
* Use to purchase fuel for rental car ONLY when your name is on rental car contract
* Use ATM to withdraw money when tolls are expected during travel
DON'T
* Use at Walmart, supermarkets or to purchase items not pertaining to Airfare, Rental car and Lodging or meals
* Use to place a hold on hotel rooms for other travelers, each traveler is responsible for their own booking
* Use ATM to withdraw more money than total meals to be reimbursed
