6 Things You Need To Know About Uniform Changes

This week NAVADMIN 208/15 is hitting the streets detailing the latest uniform changes for the fleet.

Here are six things you need to know about these changes:


1. Navy Working Uniform (NWU) Type 1 - Beginning October 1, sea bag requirement for NWU Type 1 will drop from four to three.

2. Navy Blue Coveralls - Beginning October 1, Navy blue coveralls will be discontinued as a uniform and re-designated as a dirty-work component. Two sets will still be issued and required for the sea bag.

3. All Weather Coat - The double-breasted all weather coat will be issued to recruits at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes October 1. The single-breasted all weather coat will remain optional for wear until Oct. 1, 2020.

4. Cold Weather Parka (CWP) - An optional CWP, authorized for wear October 1, is expected to be available for purchase from the Navy Exchange (NEX) uniform stores at Norfolk, Joint Base Myer - Henderson Hall, Virginia and Newport, Rhode Island as well as the NEX Uniform Support Call Center in November. Features of the new CWP include a hidden hood, center-chest rank tab and support for the zip-in NWU Type 1 fleece liner. The water-proof and wind-resistant jacket may be worn with civilian clothing as long as the rank tab is removed.

5. Black Knit Watch Cap - As of October 1 the watch cap can be worn by officers, chiefs and enlisted personnel as a cold weather head gear option. Authorization for wear will be granted by unit commanding officers (at sea) or regional commanders (ashore).

6. Discontinued Items - The following uniform items will be discontinued effective Oct. 1, 2016:
a. Officer/Chief Petty Officer Boat Cloak (male)
b. Officer/ Chief Petty Officer Dress Cape (female)
c. Officer/ Chief Petty Officer Khaki Windbreaker (male/female)
d. Tiara, beret (female)
e. Overshoes (male/female)
