VESZPREM, Hungary (June 18, 2024) Chief Hospital Corpsman Cody Davis and Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Nathan Horning, from Navy Environmental Preventive Medicine Unit 2, establish a mobile analytical platform for chemical analysis at the Bakony Training Center in Hungary during the recent Vigorous Warrior 2024 and Clean Care 2024. This mobile analytical platform enables public health experts to perform on-site tests to verify the presence of a suspected chemical warfare agent. Their collaboration with the US Army's 379th Chemical Company ensures safety and an effective response by analyzing samples and assessing the situation in real-time. Vigorous Warrior 24 and Clean Care 24 is a NATO training exercise held biennially. It aims to enhance joint capabilities and interoperability in a simulated Article 5 scenario, which refers to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, when a NATO Ally faces an armed attack, all NATO members commit to assisting the attacked party with necessary actions, including the use of armed force. During the exercise, multinational medical assets (Vigorous Warrior) collaborate with scientific assets (Clean Care) to treat casualties and detect the use of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear warfare agents. This year, 32 countries participated, totaling approximately 1,200 active participants. (U.S. Navy photo by Lt. Cmdr. Corey Fugate)
