FLEET ACTIVITIES SASEBO, Japan (March 11, 2024) A Sailor assigned to the forward-deployed amphibious transport dock ship USS New Orleans (LPD 18) engages a simulated fire with firefighters from Naval Region Japan Fire & Emergency Services during a fire drill aboard the ship, March 11, 2024. The drill, required by the Industrial Ship Safety Manual for Fire Prevention (8010), was created to train integrated teams of Sailors and firefighters to respond to casualties in industrial environments. New Orleans, part of the America Amphibious Ready Group, is forward deployed in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. U.S. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
