PHILIPPINE SEA (Nov. 6, 2023) The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Sterett (DDG 104), the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Hyuga-class helicopter destroyer JS Hyuga (DDH 181), the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Kidd (DDG 100) and the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Robert Smalls (CG 62) sail in formation in the Philippine Sea during Multi-Large Deck Event (MLDE), Nov. 6. MLDE with the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group, Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force is designed to advance combined readiness between Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) and the U.S. Navy while simultaneously demonstrating our commitment to our partners and allies in the Indo-Pacific region.
