AT SEA (Oct. 8, 2023) Sideboys render honors to Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Vice Adm. Akira Saito, center, commander in chief of the JMSDF Self Defense Fleet, as he departs the U.S. Navy's only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), after a tri-lateral summit, Oct. 8, 2023. The embarkation included a tour of Ronald Reagan and facilitated talks between flag officers representing U.S., JMSDF, and ROK-N forces. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the United States, and supports alliances, partnerships and collective maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
