SURABAYA, Indonesia (Aug. 30, 2023) Capt. Severn Stevens, commanding officer of the forward-deployed amphibious transport dock ship USS Green Bay (LPD 20), attends a cultural exchange with members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces during exercise Super Garuda Shield 2023, while in port at Surabaya, Indonesia, Aug. 30, 2023. Super Garuda Shield 2023 (SGS23) is an annual exercise that has significantly grown in scope and size since 2009. SGS23 is the second consecutive time this exercise has grown into a combined and joint event, highlighting the six participating and 12 observing nations' commitment to partnership and a free and open Indo-Pacific.
