PACIFIC OCEAN (May 30, 2023) Sailors participate in a live-fire exercise aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), May 30, 2023, in the Pacific Ocean. Sailors are required to participate in live-fire exercises in order to maintain weapons qualifications and reinforce the ship's self-defense force. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of the Makin Island and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P.
