NEW ORLEANS (May 20, 2023) Master-at-Arms 2nd Class Yasmine McMillian receives a Military Advisory Committee Community Service Award during an Armed Forces Day celebration at the National WWII Museum in New Orleans, May 20, 2023. Celebrated on the third Saturday of May, Armed Forces Day is one of many military-themed holidays during the month of May, Military Appreciation Month. August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of Armed Forces Day in replacement of the separate Army, Navy, and Air Force Days. This celebration was developed from the fusion of all branches under one department, the Department of Defense. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Sarah Pysher)
