KIN, Okinawa (Dec. 6, 2022) U.S. Marines assigned to the maritime raid force of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, post security aboard the U.S. Army transport ship USAV Calaboza (LCU 2009) during visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) training off the coast of Kin, Okinawa, Dec. 7, 2022. VBSS training consists of boarding a vessel, systematically checking all compartments for enemy personnel, weapons or contraband. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps' only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a ready and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific.
