Makin Island is capable of both receiving and providing fuel to other ships for humanitarian aid or to aid in the support of other military assets during a mission. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of Makin Island and the amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P.
