RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (Sept. 8, 2022) Brazilian navy Rear Adm. Gustavo Calero Garriga, U.S. Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Carlos Del Toro, and Brazilian navy Capt. Alexandre Jose Gomes Doria walk to training areas at Ilha do Governador in Rio de Janeiro on the official opening day of UNITAS LXIII, Sept. 8, 2022. Del Toro toured the training location to visit with multinational marines participating in exercise UNITAS LXIII. UNITAS is the world's longest-running annual multinational maritime exercise that focuses on enhancing interoperability among multiple nations and joint forces during littoral and amphibious operations in order to build on existing regional partnerships and create new enduring relationships that promote peace, stability and prosperity in the U.S. Southern Command's area of responsibility.
