PORT HUENEME, Calif. (Aug. 30, 2022) Electrician's Mate 2nd Class Somantha Him-Gross, a Surge Maintenance reserve component Sailor, uses a Plasma Blast 7000 non-thermal plasma beam to remove surface corrosion from a section of damaged and corroded steel aboard the Self-Defense Test Ship (SDTS) with the help of Atmospheric Plasma Solutions Inc. applications engineer Jason Stimson and founder and chief technical officer Peter Yancey, Aug. 30, 2022, during a repair technology exercise demonstration off the coast of Port Hueneme, Calif. The demonstration tested the tool's ability to make effective repairs while underway. Him-Gross and several other SurgeMain sailors spent the day aboard the SDTS with various companies showing their tools- and technologies- abilities to effect repairs quickly and efficiently aboard Navy ships at sea without having to return to port and stay combat ready.
