PACIFIC OCEAN (Aug. 8, 2022) Engineman 2nd Class Lea Fernandez inspects purified fuel for the gas turbine in the water and oil test lab aboard the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) before a second inspection. Gas turbines require purified fuel in order to keep the ship fully operational. Makin Island, flagship of Amphibious Squadron (CPR) SEVEN, along with 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), is currently underway conducting integrated training in the U.S. 3rd fleet to prepare for an upcoming deployment.
