SAN DIEGO (Aug. 1, 2022) Quartermaster 3rd Class Cyrah Mays looks through an alidade during a navigation watch aboard the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8). Sailors stand lookout watches to maintain a continuous watch of the sea and report any hazard that can be an obstacle in the navigation and cause harm to the ship. Makin Island, flagship of Amphibious Squadron (CPR) SEVEN, along with 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), is currently underway conducting integrated training in the U.S. 3rd fleet to prepare for an upcoming deployment.
