FRCE materials engineers assist Coast Guard with parts backlog
Corey Holstein, sandblaster in the small clean shop at FRCE, applies chemical stripper to the swashplate plate liner guide assembly for a CH-53 helicopter. Chemical stripping agents remove hard organic coatings from aircraft parts so that they can nondestructively inspected and repaired. FRCE materials engineers recently assisted engineering personnel from the U.S. Coast Guard’s Aviation Logistics Center (ALC) in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, in processing a backlog of aircraft parts that required chemical stripping.
