OKINAWA, Japan (June 15, 2022) U.S. Marines with Amphibious Reconnaissance Platoon, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), use a pulley and rope system in order to transfer equipment up the superstructure aboard the Lewis B. Puller-class expeditionary mobile base USS Miguel Keith (ESB-5), off the coast of Okinawa, Japan, June 15, 2022. Using rope and pulley systems is one of the many ways Marines have learned to overcome the challenges of operating aboard naval vessels. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps' only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
