PHILIPPINE SEA (June 18, 2022) Fire Controlman 2nd Class Chanyu Miao, from New York, feeds new rounds into a MK15 Phalanx close-in weapons system (CIWS) after a live-fire exercise aboard the U.S. Navy's only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). The CIWS is used to intercept air threats such as missiles and aircraft, as well as engage surface contacts. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the United States, and supports alliances, partnerships and collective maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
