WASHINGTON (June 6, 2022) Vice Adm. John B. Mustin, Chief of Navy Reserve and Commander, Navy Reserve Force, is keynote speaker during the 80th year commemoration of the Battle of Midway at the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C. on June 6, 2022. Mustin states during the ceremony that "the victory at Midway was primarily the result of decisions made and actions taken by individuals at decisive moments in the course of the battle. Today we commemorate those who sacrificed and refused to yield. Those who ensured American triumph at Midway. Those whose selfless dedication contributed to the defense of global freedom over tyranny. Those whose service turned the tide of war of the battle in the Pacific and of the entire war." The Battle of Midway was a major American victory by the U.S. Navy against Japans Imperial Navy, turning the tide of war, near the island of Midway in the Pacific Ocean, June 4-7, 1942, six months after Japans attack on Pearl Harbor.
