WASHINGTON (May 18, 2022) World War II era Merchant Mariners pose for photographs during the Congressional Gold Medal ceremony held to honor Merchant Mariners of WWII, which was held at the U.S. Capital. During WWII Merchant Mariners put their lives on the line for their country, braving German and Japanese submarines, in their Liberty Ships, as they delivered critical supplies for service members serving in the European and Pacific theaters.
