FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Jan. 28, 2022) Sailors from Pre-Commissioning Unit Fort Lauderdale (LPD 28) polished and cleaned the surrounding areas of The Lone Sailor and Lt. Alexander Ramsey "Sandy" Nininger statues along the New River in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The seven-foot Lone Sailor Statue serves as a tribute to the strong relationship between the city and people of Fort Lauderdale and the seas. The Lt. Ninnger Statue and Memorial commemorates the life and heroic military service of the first Medal of Honor recipient of World War II.
