NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Jan. 25, 2022) Aviation Electronics Technician Airman Benjamin Arbeau, from Powder Springs, Georgia, assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) aircraft intermediate maintenance department, simulates an injury during a phase II crew certification medical evaluation, Jan. 25, 2022. Phase III Crew Certification focuses on how the ship's training teams accomplish necessary crew training needed to return the ship to sea. Ford is in port at Newport News Shipyard executing her Planned Incremental Availability (PIA), a six-month period of modernization, maintenance and repairs.
