Ford’s (CVN 78) engineering department, mans a naval fighting thermal imager (NFTI) during a general quarters training evolution in support of Phase III Crew Certification, Jan. 26, 2022. Phase III Crew Certification focuses on how the ship’s training teams accomplish necessary crew training needed to return the ship to sea. Ford is in port at Newport News Shipyard executing her Planned Incremental Availability (PIA), a six-month period of modernization, maintenance and repairs.
