CHERRY POINT, N.C. (Dec. 6, 2021) Aircraft painters James Howard (left) and Kelly Fulcher sand paint from a U.S. Air Force CV-22 Osprey at FRCE. Traditional paint removal methods require teams of painters to spend as much as 300 manhours manually sanding paint from the V-22 Osprey because chemical stripping agents can damage the aircraft’s composite structure. The depot has begun adding a midcoat paint layer to the V-22 Osprey to protect the primer and composite layers from chemical strippers. (U.S. Navy photo by Kimberly Koonce)
