PACIFIC OCEAN (Nov. 6, 2021) Aviation Boatswain’s Airman Kevon Lamont-Anderson, from Cleburn, Texas, assigned to the amphibious transport dock ship USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), directs a MH-60S Seahawk helicopter attached to the “Wild Cards” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 23 to ascend from the flight deck during NASA Underway Recovery Test Nine (URT-9), Nov. 6. This marks the ninth U.S. Navy underway recovery test in support of the NASA Artemis mission and the third time a URT has taken place aboard John P. Murtha. The U.S. Navy has many unique capabilities that make it an ideal partner for supporting NASA, including its amphibious and expeditionary capabilities with the ability to embark helicopters, launch and recover small boats, three-dimensional air search radar, and advanced medical facilities.
