FORT PICKETT, Va. (Nov. 4, 2021) Laura Rauch, lead investigator, House Armed Services Committee, tours a dining facility at Fort Pickett, Virginia, Nov. 4, 2021. Rauch visited Task Force Pickett to tour the facilities and receive an overview of operations, allowing her to better inform the House Armed Service Committee on Operation Allies Welcome. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
