NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Sept. 24, 2021) The Honorable Meredith Berger, Under Secretary of the Navy (UNSECNAV), right, receives a brief from Capt. Jeremy Shamblee, the executive officer of the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), during a ship visit, Sept. 24, 2021. During the visit, Berger met with Ford leadership and toured several spaces to gain a better understanding of Ford's capabilities. Ford is in port at Newport News Shipyard executing her Planned Incremental Availability (PIA), a six-month period of modernization, maintenance, and repairs.
