PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD, Maine (Sept. 8 2021) Portsmouth Naval Shipyard hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the P-381 multi-mission dry dock project. Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro served as the keynote speaker. The $1.7-billion construction project was awarded Aug. 13 to Omaha, Nebraska-based 381 Constructors. This seven-year project, a key part of the Navy's comprehensive Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program, will expand and reconfigure the shipyard's Dry Dock 1 area, to increase the capacity to maintain, modernize, and repair the Navy's attack submarines and return them to the fleet on time.
