PACIFIC OCEAN (Aug. 26, 2021) Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class Jamila Smith, from Brooklyn, N.Y., guides an MH-60S Sea Hawk, assigned to the “Wildcards” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 23, off the flight deck aboard the Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Jackson (LCS 6). The Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) is a fast, agile and mission-focused platform designed to operate in near-shore environments, winning against 21st-century coastal threats.
