NORFOLK (Aug. 16, 2021) Vice Adm. Daryl Caudle, Commander, Submarine Forces (SUBFOR), left, receives a brief from Lt. Cmdr. Greg Sutter, USS Gerald R. Ford's (CVN 78) assistant navigator, in Ford's pilot house during a tour of the ship, Aug. 16, 2021. Caudle visited Ford with select SUBFOR and U.S. Second Fleet staff members to gain first-hand insight on the material readiness of the ship following Ford’s historic Full Ship Shock Trials (FSST). The U.S. Navy conducts shock trials of new ship designs using live explosives to confirm that the warships can continue to meet demanding mission requirements under the harsh conditions they might encounter in battle. Ford completed her third and final explosive event of FSST Aug. 8, 2021. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Angel Thuy Jaskuloski)
