PACIFIC OCEAN (Aug. 3, 2021) The Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Jackson (LCS 6) transits the Pacific Ocean, Aug. 3, 2021. Littoral combat ships are fast, agile, mission-focused platforms designed to operate in near-shore environments, winning against 21st-century coastal threats. The LCS is capable of supporting forward presence, maritime security, sea control, and deterrence. Jackson is conducting routine operations in the U.S. 3rd Fleet area of operations.
