NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO (July 26, 2021) Machinist�s Mate 1st Class Joseph Kimachia of Raleigh, N.C., supervises a sea and anchor detail aboard the Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Coronado (LCS 4) as the ship prepares to get underway for routine operations in the Pacific Ocean. The littoral combat ship (LCS) is a fast, agile, mission-focused platform designed to operate in near-shore environments, winning against 21st-century coastal threats.
