NEWPORT, R.I. (July 27, 2021) Officer Development School (ODS) class 21070 students step off the 10-foot tower into the pool to simulate abandoning ship during the third-class swimmer test at Officer Training Command Newport (OTCN), Rhode Island. The test consists of jumping from a 10-foot tower into the pool to simulate abandoning ship, five minutes of floating in the prone position, coverall inflation, and a 50-yard swim. ODS provides staff corps officers and several restricted line designators with training necessary to prepare them to function in their role as newly commissioned Naval officers.
