WASHINGTON (July 27, 2021) Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) Director Samuel J. Cox, a retired U.S. Navy rear admiral, gives remarks on naval artifacts and their preservation during a ribbon-cutting ceremony for �Future Campus Vision�, an exhibit showcasing the new National Museum of the United States Navy (NMUSN), July 27, 2021, at the current NMUSN. The U.S. Navy has set plans to open the new NMUSN campus in October 2025, correlating with the Navy's 250th birthday. The NMUSN campus will act as an enduring memorial to honor the service of American Sailors, inspire selfless service and enhance public understanding of the Navy�s history and heritage. NHHC is responsible for managing, researching, preserving, and interpreting the U.S. Navy's collection of sunken military craft, which includes more than 2,500 shipwrecks and 14,000 aircraft wrecks dispersed globally.
