PORT HUENEME, Calif. (July 14, 2021) A sensor examines a metal plate for rust. The red machine acts as a vacuum pump and tunes the sensor to a specific wavelength as part of the corrosion detection process. The instrumentation is part of the partnership between Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division and local remote-sensing technology company, Aerial Alchemy, and is seeking to use purpose-built unmanned aerial vehicles to better detect and track corrosion for the Navy.
