PHILIPPINE SEA (June 13, 2021) The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force tank landing ship JS Shimokita (LST 4002) breaks away from the America Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) after conducting a bilateral exercise in the Philippine Sea. Bilateral exercises further demonstrate command control and interoperability between allies ultimately enhancing future operations. The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit is operating aboard ships of the America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
