CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (May 24, 2021) Capt. Carl Goforth, a researcher from Naval Medical Research Center located in Silver Spring, Md., collects a biological specimen using a nasal swab from a Marine participating in the COVID-19 Health Action Response for Marines (CHARM) study, May 24, 2021. Goforth and other scientists were at at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton's 13 Area clinic to follow up with Marines participating in the study, which started last year at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, during the height of the pandemic. Researchers aim to understand the long-term health impact of COVID-19 infection by following participants over time. The stop at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton was just one among many as scientists from NMRC travel around the country to follow up with original study volunteers who were recruits when they first volunteered.
