PACIFIC OCEAN (May 11, 2021) A rigid-hull inflatable boat with U.S. Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachment 104 personnel and U.S. Navy Sailors from the Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Charleston (LCS 18) approach a foreign vessel during an Oceania Maritime Security Initiative (OMSI) boarding. The OMSI program is a Secretary of Defense initiative leveraging Department of Defense assets transiting the region to increase the Coast Guard's maritime domain awareness, ultimately supporting its maritime law enforcement operation in Oceania.
