PACIFIC OCEAN (May 11, 2021) U.S. Navy Sailors and U.S. Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachment 104 personnel embarked aboard the Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Charleston (LCS 18) transit the Pacific Ocean on a rigid-hull inflatable boat prior to an Oceania Maritime Security Initiative (OMSI) boarding. Charleston deployed in support of the Oceania Maritime Security Initiative (OMSI), a Secretary of Defense initiative leveraging Department of Defense assets transiting the region to increase the Coast Guard's maritime domain awareness, ultimately supporting its maritime law enforcement operation in Oceania.
