DARWIN, Alaska (May 8, 2021) Minister Paul Kirby, Labor member for Port Darwin for the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly, and his daughter, lay a wreath at the USS Peary Memorial during a Battle of the Coral Sea Commemorative Service in Darwin, Australia, May 8, 2021. The Battle of the Coral Sea was a historic demonstration of interoperability between U.S. and Australian militaries during World War II and its strategic importance is commemorated annually. The 2021 rotation provides the U.S. Marine Corps and Australian Defence Force with an exceptional opportunity to develop relationships, learn about each other’s cultures, strengthen partnership, and increase shared military capabilities.
