NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO (April 12, 2021) Sailors render honors to the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) from the flight deck of the Freedom-variant littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS 1). Freedom returned to Naval Base San Diego following their deployment in support of Joint Interagency Task Force South's counter illicit drug trafficking mission in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean.
