ARABIAN GULF (March 21, 2021) A U.S. Marine Corps CH-53E Super Stallion attached to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 164 (Reinforced), 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), embarked aboard the amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22), conducts a routine transit patrol in support of the International Maritime Security Construct (IMSC) in the Arabian Gulf. The International Maritime Security Construct (IMSC) maintains the freedom of navigation, international law and free flow of commerce to support regional stability and security of the maritime commons. The amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22), part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, and the 15th MEU are deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean Sea and the Pacific Ocean through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
