IE SHIMA, Okinawa (March 11, 2021) U.S. Marine Corps CH-53E Super Stallions and MV-22 Ospreys with 1st Marine Aircraft Wing transport Marines with 3d Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment executing an air assault during Castaway 21.1 at Ie Shima, Okinawa, Japan, March 11, 2021. The exercise demonstrated the Marine Corps' ability to integrate with the joint force to seize and defend key maritime terrain, provide low-signature sustainment, and execute long-range precision fires in support of naval operations from an expeditionary advanced base. 3/8 is currently attached to 3d Marine Division under the Unit Deployment Program.
