WASHINGTON (Feb. 19, 2021) On temporary display at the National Museum of the U.S. Navy, an executive desk designed and built by U.S. Navy Seabees for the Secretary of the Navy made from wood and copper reclaimed from USS Constitution, awaits delivery to the Pentagon. The top of the desk is trimmed with copper removed and replaced from the underside of Constitution's hull during the 2015-2017 overhaul and dry-docking. The desk also features parts from the former USS Chesapeake, USS Constellation, USS Texas, USS New Jersey and USS Arizona. The project was initiated to deliver a desk of comparable, provenance, history, and heritage as the President's HMS Resolute Desk. Naval History and Heritage Command, located at the Washington Navy Yard, is responsible for the preservation, analysis, and dissemination of U.S. naval history and heritage.
