WATERBURY, Conn. (Jan. 8, 2021) Secretary of the Navy Kenneth J. Braithwaite speaks during an award ceremony for Navy Chaplain Lt. Thomas M. Conway at the Basilica of Immaculate Conception in Waterbury, Conn. The Basilica was Conway’s home parish before joining the Navy. Conway was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for his heroic efforts aboard the USS Indianapolis (CA 35) when it was attacked and sunk by an enemy submarine in 1945.
