ARLINGTON, Texas (July 8, 2020) Alex Johnston, left, and his younger brother Cameron Johnston, right, work on the first full assembly of the testbed they designed to study the surface flashover potential of high voltage insulators on the campus of the University of Texas at Arlington. Alex and Cameron are leading the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) Naval Engineering Education Consortium (NEEC) effort. The NEEC cultivates an excellent naval engineering workforce through student participation in funded project-based hands-on research conducted at colleges and universities. "The NEEC program is unique in that we are working with NSWCDD and engineers from NSWCDD rather than just sponsors from the Office of Naval Research Science and Technology," said Dr. David Alan Wetz, who heads up the NEEC program at NSWCDD.
