CORPUS CHRISTI (Sept. 30, 2020) Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Desiree Gee prepares a syringe with the influenza vaccine before administering annual flu shots at Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Corpus Christi. Impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have stressed the importance of the flu vaccine, and while the COVID-19 and influenza viruses are different, symptoms of the two can look the same, making it difficult to differentiate the two based on symptoms alone. Getting a flu shot now could help reduce the overall impact of contagious respiratory illnesses on the population and decrease the burden on the health care system during the overlapping flu season and COVID-19 pandemic.
