VASCO NUNEZ DE BALBOA, Panama (Sept. 16, 2020) The Cyclone-class coastal patrol ship USS Tornado (PC 14), Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS William P. Lawrence (DDG 110) and the Freedom-variant littoral combat ship USS Detroit (LCS 7) moored pierside in Vasco Nunez de Balboa, the Pacific end of the Panama Canal, prior to their Panama Canal transit, Sept. 16. The ships are deployed to the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility to support Joint Interagency Task Force South's mission, which includes counter illicit drug trafficking in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific.
