FALLS CHURCH, Va. (Sept. 3, 2020) U.S. Navy Surgeon General Rear Adm. Bruce Gillingham meets with his COVID-19 scientific advisory panel at the U.S. Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery Headquarters in Falls Church, Virginia, Sept. 3, 2020. The Scientific panel produces a weekly COVID-19 public health update that provides a scientific synopsis of the latest COVID-19 research for senior Navy and DOD leadership. Gillingham formed the scientific panel shortly after the coronavirus pandemic began to ensure that Navy Medicine was using the latest research to inform guidance and operational support to the fleet and Fleet Marine Force. The panel takes input from all of Navy Medicine and is composed of scientists in the fields of public health, biology, microbiology, medical technology, infectious disease, biochemistry, preventive medicine and research physiology.
